Description
The photo shows the monument for the Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph I (1830-1916) at the south-western corner of the Volksgarten (public gardens) in Chernivtsi. The Volksgarten, the largest and oldest park in Chernivtsi (1830), was home to a number of public buildings and monuments. This monument was set up in 1888 in occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Emperor’s coronation. It was demolished during the First World War.
The building in the background is the Schützenhaus (meeting house of the riflemen) built in 1832.
