At the beginning of the 17th century, the oldest part of the Church of St. Mary Magdalene was built--the alter. In approximately 1753-1758, Martyn Urbanik added the main nave, chapel, and steeples to it. On the facade of the church, between the pediment and steeples are statues of Saint Dominic and Saint Hyacinth, works by Sebastian Fesinger. In 1776, the church became a parish church; a "workhouse" was located in the monastery, and then, in 1841, a women's prison, which was rebuilt in 1929 (now part of Lviv Polytechnic National University). In 1889, under the project of architect Yulian Zakharevych, the tops of the steeples got a new, baroque finish. Under Soviet power, the church was used as a club, where there were many loud, dance-filled evening. Later, in 1936, an organ hall was opened in the church, as the church contains the largest organ in Ukraine.
