The photo shows still undeveloped area south of the Roman Catholic Jesuit Church. The church was built in a neo gothic stile between 1891 and 1894 by architect Josef Leizner. Today it houses the regional archives of the Chernivtsi district (oblast). Attached to the church the former priest’s home can be seen. <br />The large building right of the church in the background is the back facade of the Landesregierung (Government of the Bukovina) on Austriaplatz (p. Ghica Voda, Soborna pl.). After 1900 the whole area was built up with apartment buildings, schools and public buildings. <br /><em>Helmut Kusdat</em>
