The photo shows members of the Spartanka sports club, performing exercises on inclined Swedish benches. The classes were held at the Basilian Seminary in Przemyśl.
The "Spartanka" club existed at the women's gymnasium "Russky Institute for Girls in Przemyśl". The institute was founded in 1895. The official opening took place on October 18, 1896. The Institute's activities since 1881 were preceded by the "Bursa for Girls of the Russian Catholic Rite in Przemyśl" society. In 1903, a lyceum was opened at the Institute. In the 1916/1917 academic year, the lyceum was transformed into a real gymnasium.
The "Spartanka" club held public performances in Przemyśl. Basketball competitions were held with sports clubs from other cities of Galicia.
