A dynamic and rich picture of
Khreshchatyk in winter. On the left, there is a typical Khreshchatyk
house, entirely occupied by trading offices and shops. The whole
façade is completely, from top to bottom, covered with billboards
reading “The Illusion Theatre”, “Photographer Kozlovsky”,
“Galoshes”, “Furniture”, “Clothes”, “Glasses”. Over
the “Galoshes” billboard one can see the star of David; it often
appeared in newspaper advertisements and on signboards to indicate
that a certain company was owned by a Jewish merchant. On the right,
one can see tram tracks and an electric tram with a rod between the
tracks (a current collector). The carriageway is in the middle; the
sidewalk is not separated by a kerb or a kind of limiter and seems to
be lower than the carriageway.
