A woman, her cousin Irina Ananyeva with her sons Dmitry and Alexey pose in front of the cruiser Thomas S. Gates CG-51 (USA) at the Grafskaya Wharf in Sevastopol. Other townspeople also came to see the foreign ship, which was anchored in the South Bay. The visit of the American military cruiser to the port of the closed regime city on 4-8 August 1989 took place at the invitation of Gorbachev, as part of the negotiations with Ronald Reagan on ending the Cold War.
