Tower No. 2 was built in 1853 as part of the Citadel's fortification and military complex. At the beginning of the 20th century, there was a guardhouse with a checkpoint near the tower. From the beginning of 1941, a concentration camp was located on the territory of the Citadel; according to Soviet prisoners of war, interrogation rooms and death chambers were set up in Tower No. 2. During the Soviet era, the tower housed a research laboratory for the Kinescope factory. The photo shows a meeting of Soviet veterans near Tower No. 2, possibly former prisoners of the German concentration camp. Since 2007, work has been underway to rebuild the tower into a hotel.
