An interview with a director who has a large theatre and television experience. The man talks in detail about how he entered the profession, took part in amateur troupes, and got acquainted with prominent directors and actors. He illustrates his narrative with a number of stories from life, recalls the most significant performances and cooperation with designers and actors. A large part of the conversation is devoted to the peculiarities of performances staged on television and the specifics of work of a director on television in the Soviet times. The man often compares life to a performance, where everything is predetermined and where every episode has a significance.
