Description

A view of Podil from the observation area of the Volodymyrska hill. A classic panorama of Kyiv, with its hills and lowlaands. One can see the St. Andrew church atop a hill and Podil in the lowland. A lone male figure can be seen below on the left. A German inscription shows the Ukrainian sounding of the name of Kyiv. The photo may have been taken in 1918 by German photographers who documented the life of the city in a rather detailed way. The housing of Podil was rather dense at that time, consisting mostly of two-, three- or four-storied houses.
