The film is about a collective farm in the village of Kuzmivka, headed by Petro Krit. Footage of the villagers' everyday life, collective farm work, and local landscapes is accompanied by a voiceover narration quoting excerpts from the first chapter of Alexander Kuprin's novel "Olesya" (1898) about Perebrody peasants freed from Polish serfdom.
