Taras Koval

The majority of Taras Koval's family archive was lost in Bakhmut after his parents died. The rest of the archive was moved to Taras' apartment and evacuated after the outbreak of military operations.

The archive consists of two parts: photographs of the Koval family — Ivan Moiseevich and Oleksandra, the owner's paternal relatives, and photographs of the owner's maternal grandparents — Oleksandr Petrovych Bohadytsia, who worked at the state enterprise "Donbasgeologiya", and Bohadytsia Valentyna Pavlivna, a doctor at the Bakhmut hospital. Oleksandr Bohadytsia took some of the photos.

Oleksandr Petrovych got interested in photography somewhere in the early 1950s. He had the FED-3 camera and a full range of equipment and chemicals for home photo printing. Most of the equipment was made in the late 1960s and early 1970s. He, his daughters, and his sister would take the photos, but Oleksandr mostly printed them.

The collection comprises 67 photographs: the oldest are from the early 20th century, and the newest are from 2003.

The photographs were mostly taken in Bakhmut (then Artemivsk), but some were taken in Chystiakove (then Torez).
