The building of the Ukrainian cooperative bank and insurance company "Dnister" is one of the city's most striking Secessionist structures, constructed from 1905 to 1916 on Tadeusz Obminsky Avenue by Ivan Levynsky's architectural and construction firm, Aleksandr Lushpynsky, and Lev Levynsky. Established in 1892, "Dnister" was the first Ukrainian insurance company. Together with the cooperative bank of this name it was located in the Prosvita building at 10 Rynok Square since 1895. Later they decided to acquire a property on Ruska Street and construct their own building. Besides the bank and insurance company, the building contained a large hall, where Ukrainian athletes from the gymnastics and physical education society "Sokil-Batkiv," held training sessions and competitions. The "Ruska Besida" theater also often performed in the hall.
