The Karpaty football team was founded on January 18, 1963, on the based of the factory team "Lvivsilmash," earned the right to participate in Class B of the USSR championship after winning the Lviv region championship. The name was proposed by Hleb Klimov, then head of the Lviv region trade unions and regional federation of football.The Karpaty team joined the Avangard sports club, and its sponsor became the Lviv television company "Elektron." The team kept the green and white colors of the Lvivsilmash team.
In the 1968 season, the team, which was remembered for its collaborative spirit and commitment to teamwork, consisted of 20 to 25-year-olds. In 1969, Ernest Yust became the coach.
On August 17, 1969, Karpaty, which designed at the second group of class "A" (equivalent to today's first league), defeated Rostov's SKA (Army Sports Club). The final match of the USSR Football Cup was held at the V.I. Lenin Central Stadium in Moscow.
Starting on August 18, 1963, Karpaty played at the 50,000-seat Druzhba Stadium (renamed Ukraine Stadium in 1990).
In 1999, the stadium was reconstructed.
