On October 3, 1971, the extremely popular state lottery "Sportloto" draw was held in Lviv. The demonstration of drawing the lucky prize usually took place in the best public hall in various cities. It is possible that in Lviv this demonstration was held in Harahina Palace on Petrushevech Square, where, that year, a crowded pop-music festival took place.
In the picture: word fencing champion Vasyl Stankovych pulls the lucky ticket out of the drum. A legendary figure of Lviv sports with an impressive biography, Vasyl Stankovych was a talented fencer and Honored Master of Sports of the USSR, winning the highest awards in sports. He was a silver medalist at the Olympic Games in Mexico City (1968) and in Munich (1972) in team foil competitions. He was the world champion in 1971 for individual competitors, the world champion in 1969, 1970, 1973, and 1974 for team competition, the captain of the USSR foil team, a coach and teacher.
