"My grandmother Yeva Vasylevych is on the left. She was born in the territory of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, now the village of Skorodne, Lviv region. She lived there with her husband and son until 1953. That year she and her family were deported to the Kryve Ozero village in Mykolaiv region. That's where they settled in. Later my grandmother and father moved to the village of Kapitanka when construction of the Pobuzhsky ferronickel plant began near it.
Women's dresses in this picture were sewn by their neighbor, a local tailor. Her name was Nina Mefodiivna. I remember very distinctly the feel of fabric from which these dresses were made, its vibrant, bright colors. For some reason all these fabrics were called the same: poplin."
