“It’s a picture of my father Mykola Kovalchuk during first year working after finishing an institute. He studied wine-making in Odessa and after that was assigned to a canning factory in the Turia village in Shchors (now Snovsk) district of the Chernihiv region. There he arrived along with his fellow villager and classmate Ivan. Both were young, unmarried and liked to go out from the village or to go shopping to the district center. One time they went to Shchors but weren’t able to find any decent thing to buy. Without hesitation they took a bus and went to the neighboring district center Berezna. He bought this spot-patterned nylon shirt in the local store. He immediately wore it and went to take a picture in a local photo studio.”
