"My mother Svitlana Broda (on the left) on a visit with her cousin Larysa Broda. In this picture Svitlana is a school graduate, Larysa is studying at the Lviv Medical Institute to become a pediatrician. Svetlana is dressed in a milk-colored dress with small purple rectangles, made of dense synthetic material (most likely polyester), which she was wearing at her prom in Lozova. She recollects that it was her favorite dress. She wore it for many years. After washing, the dress did not need to be ironed. An interesting story is related to it. On the eve of graduation, Aunt Marusya, who lived in the village of Davydiv, Lviv region, sewed a long calico sundress for her niece Svitlana. It was a belted dress with green stripes and roses pattern. It was meant to become her prom dress. The dress you see in the picture belonged to her classmate Tetiana Kurochyna, to whom this outfit was sent from Leningrad (now Sankt Petersburg). However, Tetiana did not like the dress at all, she was very upset with it and almost refused to go to graduation. But Svetlana Broda's sundress suited her taste. As a result, the girls switched clothes and went to graduation.
Larysa Broda's suit was most likely brought from Poland (Stryy's proximity to the border had its advantages for those who wanted to dress differently)."
