The monument to the Ukrainian writer, poet and publicist Ivan Franko
(1856-1916) was erected at the Lychakiv cemetery in 1933, 18 years after
Franko's death. The monument was authored by the well-known Ukrainian
sculptor Serhii Lytvynenko. The figure of the stonecutter is an image
taken from the eponymous poem by Ivan Franko. Ever since the monument's
erection and to this day, it has been the site of many patriotic
meetings and rallies, as well as events commemorating Franko. The
monument is a must-see for the many tourists who view the Lychakiv
cemetery museum complex.
