View of Sikstuska (Doroshenka) Street from the main post office towards the city center. The street was known in the early 16th century as Mikulchynska; in 1535, it was named Sikstova Droga after the Sikst family estate, which was located near the Church of St. Mary Magdalene. At the end of the 19th century, when the street took on its current form (running from Svobody Avenue to S. Bandera Street), it was called Sixtus Street. The part of the street from the Main Post Office to St. Mary Magdalene Church was called Obrony Lwowa Street in honor of the 20th anniversary of the Polish-Ukrainian War. At the end of 1939 and beginning of 1940, it was renamed Zhovtneva Street. With the outbreak of war in July 1941, the name Sixtuska was restored, which existed until the end of 1944, although from November 1941 to July 1944, the official name was written in German - Sixtuskastrasse. During the renaming of streets in the period of independence, in 1992, Zhovtneva was named after Hetman Petro Doroshenko.
