A rather rare view of the central Lviv street is the perspective of Hetmanska Street. On the left and now stretches a city square, which now has no name, once - Hetmansky Vali. At first glance, a long row of similar houses on the right may seem uninteresting, but let's take into account that this is a view that has not existed for over a hundred years. Each of these houses housed a private money and securities exchange office, some of which later existed for many years as private banks.
In the foreground - Hetmanska, 4, where the Blumenfeld and Union institution was located, then - Byk&Schrieser. On the first floor is the Gross and Strus confectionery - Ferdinand Gross was a famous Lviv confectioner, for some time he served as a councilor of the city of Lviv. At the end of the 19th century, his confectionery was located at 10 Akademichna Street (now Shevchenko Avenue).
Hetmanska, 6 - from the 1860s, the money and securities exchange office of Yakub Strog was located, at No. 8 there was the same institution of O.M. Brown, which was replaced by a private office, which later became the Sokal&Lilien bank.
Perhaps the photo can be dated to an earlier date - around 1880, because in that year the central part of the city was crossed by a horse-drawn tram route, and there are no visible traces of transport on the road.
