The Main Post Office was constructed in 1887–1889 on a plot of land that stretched along Kopernika Street and belonged to the Greek Catholic Seminary. The seminary garden was located on this plot. The city authorities searched for a long time for a suitable site for the construction of the post office, considering many options. Finally, a site was chosen for the construction of the post office building, the standard design for which was obtained from Vienna. Lviv architect Sylwester Gavryshkevych adapted and implemented the design by Viennese architect F. Zetz with minor changes. The post office was built by the Lviv architectural firm of Ludwik Ramult and Józef Cybulski. The photograph shows what the Main Post Office looked like five years after its construction. In the center of the building, above the main entrance, there is a large clock, and on the first floor, there are lamps. To the left of the main entrance, in front of the building, there is a well, which is bypassed by a tram track. This turn existed until recently, when the direction of the track was changed. People are standing near tram car No. 6, among whom is possibly a conductor in uniform. It can be assumed that the tram is standing at a stop. The photograph contains a large number of architectural details that no longer exist, which adds “liveliness” and documentary value to the image.
