The date of construction of the palace of the Counts of Bielski is unknown, but the photograph may have been taken in 1871, when the old Shyroka Street was named after the brilliant Polish astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus. The building acquired its current appearance after a major renovation and reconstruction carried out in 1923 by architect Ivan Bagensky. In 1939–1941, the count's family was “left” with half of the building, while the other half was occupied by the Writers' Union of the Ukrainian SSR. After the war, it became the Teacher's House; since 1958, the hall of the former Bielski palace has hosted performances by the Polish People's Theater.
