In 1882, architect Józef - Kaetan Janowski built a new building for the St. Sophia Children's Hospital on the corner of 42 Lychakivska Street and 1-3 Glowinsky Street (now Chernihivska Street). It was almost immediately clear that the hospital's capacity was insufficient, and in 1889 the same architect rebuilt the construction, where the reception room was located, and also built a practical pavilion. In 1885, architect Ivan Lewinsky built a separate building intended for the reception of infectious patients and an operating room. St. Sophia Children's Hospital was established in 1845 through the efforts and with the financial support of Princess Jadwiga Sapieha in memory of her prematurely deceased daughter. The hospital was located in the complex of the St. Teresa's institution, designed by architect Józef Franz on Novyi Svit St. (now S. Bandera St.). The institution consisted of the Church of St. Theresa, the Monastery of the Sisters of Providence, the Hospital of St. Sophia, an educational boarding school for girls, and a women's correctional house. The building of the former children's hospital now houses the Department of Otolaryngology of the Danylo Halytskyi Medical University.
