In the years of the First World War, a wooden statue of a knight in armor was placed at the beginning of the Hetman's Bulwarks, between Jagiellonska St. and Sw. Ducha Sq. The statue was installed at the initiative of the Austrian government, and at the order of the city council. For a fee, every resident could hammer a nail into the wooden figure - the money thus raised was donated to the war effort. Today, the wooden sculpture is kept at the Lviv History Museum.
