The postcard shows the chamber of commerce and insdustry of the Bukowina (Bukowiner Handels- und Gewerbekammer, Camera de Comert si Industria) on Theatre Square (Elisabethplatz, Piata Vasile Alexandri). It was built in 1908 -1910 by the architekt Friedrich Gottesmann in a style close to the Viennese Secession. Its facade is decorated with allegorical figures of commerce and the emblems of various different trades. Today the building is home to the Medical University. The coffehouse in the ground floor with the outside sitting was called “Kaiser Cafe.” The photo was taken after 1910, but before 1912, with the building ground next to the Chamber of Commerce still empty. <br /><br /><em>Helmut Kusdat</em>
