The view of the Adam Mickiewicz monument from the balcony of stone buildings No. 6-7 on Mickiewicz square. It is difficult to determine the exact date of the picture, since the appearance of the monument has not changed since 1909 (when the area around the monument was finished off with a pedestal, balustrade, and flowerbeds). The picture was taken at a time when the kinds of plants in the flowerbeds on both sides of the monument were changed: In stead of the decorative bushes planted by inspector of city parks, Arnold Rering, in 1907-1909, the outer perimeter of flowerbeds was decorated with trees, probably poplar. The exact date of this change is unknown; it may have taken place around the mid-1920’s. Over the course of several years the poplars were given a pyramidal shape (like the 72 poplars on the central alley of Akademichna Street).
