Pelczyński pond was located at the foot of Poznańska Mountain as early as the 16th century and was owned by the Pelków family, hence its name. On the initiative of Cavalry General Count Johann Karl Fresnel, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Galicia, in 1820 it began to be used as a military swimming pool and swimming school. The following year, architect Wilhelm Schmidt built a bathhouse, next to which a 18th-century stone lion was placed. In winter, the pond served as a skating rink. In 1915, the Russian military drained the Pelchynsky Pond, and it ceased to exist. In 1921, it was finally filled in and Pelchynska Street (Vitovskogo Street), which had previously curved around the pond, was straightened.
