Built in 1799 according to the design of architect Karl Merz, the Casino Gecht hotel and entertainment complex (or halls of the Jesuit garden) enjoyed immense popularity. Balls and conventions were held in the halls on the first floor. It was in these halls that the first agricultural and industrial exhibitions in Lviv took place in the 1850s. The second floor was occupied by the rooms of the best hotel of that time. On the side of Mayerska Street (now Sichovykh Striltsiv Street), the Gecht Casino building housed baths. In 1867–1877, the building housed the Lviv “Sokil” (Falcon). In 1877, the Gecht Casino was dismantled to make way for the construction of the Galician Sejm.
