On September 6–October 10, 1877, the first Regional Agricultural and Industrial Exhibition was opened in Lviv, on 15 acres of the Yablonovsky Park (now Petrushevych Square). It was organized on the initiative of the Galician Economic Society under the leadership of Count Włodzimierz Dzeduszicki, with the active cooperation of Prince Leon Sapieha, Ludwik Wierzbicki, and other public figures. Thematic exhibitions were located in two specially built large pavilions and two private ones (Prince Leon Sapieha and Count Andrzej Potocki). The exhibition catalog contained 1,492 items, most of which were agricultural machinery products; folk crafts were also widely represented. The exhibition became a landmark event in the history of Galician industry and pointed to possible directions for development. It resulted in the establishment of the Regional Bank, the Art and Industrial School, the rise of agriculture, and the development of crafts.
