Description

The photo shows the courtyard of the Greek Catholic Seminary of the Holy Spirit from the side of Sikstuska (Doroshenka) Street. The monastery and church of St. Catherine of Siena were built in 1722–1728 at the expense of Princess Theophilia Vyshnevetskaya, sister of King Stanislaus Leszczynski. After the dissolution of the order in 1783, the building was transferred to the Greek Catholic Seminary, founded with the assistance of Emperor Joseph II. The seminary church, located in the former church, was named Holy Spirit. The iconostasis and altar were painted by the famous Lviv painter Luka Dolinsky. On the right side of the church, there was a marble plaque dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Markiyan Shashkevych. In 1888–1890, architect Sylvester Gavryshkevych built a new seminary building, which has housed the Theological Academy since 1928.
