The film contains an amateur production about a theatrical celebration of Ivan Kupala:
1) 00:00:09 - 00:01:19 — Landscapes of rural nature. Girls in folk costumes walk down the street, singing and carrying an effigy of Kupala. They address Vodianyk.
2) 00:01:20 - 00:11:14 — Vodianyk emerges from the lake. The audience — including many children — watches attentively and with enthusiasm.
The girls lead a dance. A scene featuring a young man and woman.
The sound of thunder. He Who Rends The Dikes appears, addressed by little girls playing the Lost Babes. The Mermaid enters the pond. Laughter from the audience at the “drunkard” who cannot find his house. Mermaid girls arrive, singing and dancing. They are joined by forest spirits (musicians). The girls enter the pond, unbraid their hair, and braid the hair of one of the mermaids. A mermaid carries the Kupala effigy, held aloft on the “masonry” (hands) of a group of men. The heroes of the holiday board a boat with Kupala. Girls throw wreaths into the water. Kupala and the wreaths float on the surface.
The sound design of the film combines Dmytro Kozel’s commentary, separately recorded character lines (voiced by L. Petrenko), and song melodies. The dialogues of the characters are not always reproduced verbatim or synchronized with the footage. Featured folk songs: The Willow Is Abundant in the Garden (На городі верба рясна), The Sun Hasn’t Risen Yet (Ще сонечко не зійшло), My Father Told Me (Казав мені батько), Oh, It’s Raining on the Mountain (Ой, на горі дощ іде), Oh, Float, Wreath (Ой пливи, вінок).
