The postcard shows the railway bridge crossing the river Pruth in Chernivtsi. It was built in 1908. During the First World War Chernivtsi was occupied by Russia three times. Many buildings including the railway bridge were damaged or destroyed. Although the text on the postcards claims that the bridge was blown up by the Russians, it was most likely blown up by the retreating Austrian army in 1914. The postcard was published in Prague where many inhabitants of Chernivtsi fled to during World War One. <br /><i>Helmut Kusdat</i>
