Description

The city shooting range was the estate of the Rifle Society. The Rifle Society was established in Lviv in 1445 as a service to protect the city from enemies. Over several centuries, the art of shooting developed among the townspeople of Lviv, who formed a kind of gentlemanly school. In 1775, the society acquired part of the Chechevychivsky garden, and a street was laid, which was named Stshelnitska. At the end of the 19th century, it was Kurkova Street, and now it is Lisenka Street. In 1789, a shooting range was built here, now located at 23a Lysenka Street. In the first quarter of the 19th century, the building was significantly rebuilt by Franz Trescher, and in 1870 by architect Józef Engel. Since then, the building of the City Shooting Range has remained unchanged. In 1890, initiated and funded by Leon Bratkovsky, the shooting range's buildings were restored, the surrounding park was landscaped, and a bust of King Jan III Sobieski by Tadeusz Baroncza (1883) was placed in the center of the flower garden in the middle of the square in front of the main building.
