The image shows the construction of the main building of the Medical School, The Medical School of Lviv University, was established by imperial decree on October 1, 1894. Numerous petitions from the Lviv community to the Austro-Hungarian government and efforts by the Sejm to add a medical school to Lviv University were successful in 1891. With the assistance of the Governor of Galicia, Count Kazimierz Baden, the university received a medical school. The city authorities provided land on Pekarska Street worth about 70,000 zlotys and a subsidy of 30,000 zlotys for free. The government agreed with the choice of the construction site, built and equipped the medical school complex. Construction began in the spring of 1893 at 52 Pekarska Street. In 1894, the first three buildings were constructed according to the design of architect Braunzeis: the main building of the Department of Descriptive Anatomy and Physiology (worth 199,520 zlotys); on the left — the building of the Department of Forensic Medicine (213,613 zlotys); on the right — the building of the Department of Pathology, Chemistry, and Pharmacology (190,057 zlotys). The Medical School was established in 1894 by transferring several departments from the School of Philosophy: pharmacognosy, human anatomy, hygiene, and human physiology. The grand opening of the new school took place in the same year by Emperor Franz Joseph; 84 students began their studies.
