"Picture was taken on the Potemkin stairs in Odesa. It depicts me, Halyna Usenko (my maiden name) standing with my mom Hanna Romanivna Usenko. Our family is on a vacation here. We came from the Donetsk region.
My mom was born in Solobkivtsi in Khmelnitsky region. After finishing secondary school she was studying in the medical faculty Medical institute of Chernivtsi. She graduated in 1958. She was assigned to the Stalino (now Donetk) Public health department. She was a radiologist and later she became the head doctor of Novodonetsk hospital. She was head of hospital until retiring.
In this picture she’s wearing a dress made from dark-blue artificial silk with white squares. The dress was made by a tailor in atelier. My sundress was bought in a Children World department store. It was made from red calico with white flower print and red yoke. Take a close look at the sun hat I am holding. At that time these white-cloth sun hats with floppy brims were very fashionable! Almost everybody on vacation had one just like this”.
