Description

The Temple of the Wisdom of God, located on Chernecha Gora in Shevchenkivskyi Grove, has an almost 250-year history. On the northeastern outskirts of the city stretches a ridge of low wooded hills; the name of this area has changed many times: Alnpekivskyi Forest - Kaiserwald - Shevchenkivskyi Grove. The idea of creating an open-air museum of folk architecture here belonged to the long-time director of the National Museum, Hilarion Sventsitsky. In July 1930, thanks to the efforts of Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytskyi, an 18th-century wooden church was brought from the Boykiv village of Kryvky, Turkivskyi District. This amazing architectural masterpiece was built in 1763 by an unknown folk master. On Kaiserwald, "the church was laid out in great detail" by folk masters T. Dzhuryn and P. Demkov under the scientific supervision of Mykhailo Drahan. July 7 In 1931, at 9 a.m., the church of St. Nicholas of the Studite monastery was consecrated according to the Greek Catholic rite. In 1946, the monastery was liquidated; the church stood empty for 20 years, and in 1966 it became the first exhibit of the newly created Museum of Folk Architecture and Life. The ancient wooden church impresses visitors to the museum with the perfection of its general forms, their monumentality, and the skillful processing of details. In 1990, the church of St. Nicholas was returned to the Studite monks of the UGCC, and the solemn consecration began the countdown of a new life for the revived temple of the Wisdom of God.
