The first description of the plant settlement near the Kramatorska station was published in An Illustrated Guide along the Kursk-Kharkiv-Sevastopol Railway in 1902; the first known mention of the Kramatorsk Metallurgical Society plant school in Kramatorska dates from the same year. Kramatorsk received the town status in 1932.
