In 1877, a school of artistic crafts was opened at the City Industrial Museum, which was temporarily located in the Strilnytsia building on Kurkova Street; the following year, the museum and the school were moved to the town hall. The school united professional schools for training bricklayers, construction locksmith apprentices; a school of artistic crafts; publicly accessible halls for drawing and modeling, and an industrial supplementary school for apprentice craftsmen. In 1890–1892, thanks to the anniversary foundation of the Galician Savings Bank, the building of the Art and Industrial School was built on Teatralna Street according to the plans of Professor Gustav Bizants with the participation of architects Juliusz Hochberger and Hryhoriy Pezhansky.
