Description

Archaic appearance of Pidvalna Street before the construction of the Dniester Insurance Company building on the corner of Ruska Street. The street was formed in the early 19th century in the eastern part of Lviv on the site of ancient city fortifications. Since then, the name has always reflected the location of the street: in 1801 it was called Na Vale; Zbrojovni vyzhsha and nizhsha; Zbrojovni pl.4 from 1841 - valova vyzhsha or vali Vyzhshe. In 1871, during the reorganization of the urban space, the street was called Podvale, from November 1941 - Am Graben; from July 1944 the name Podvale returned again, and in December 1944 the street received its Ukrainian name - Pidvalna. On the left in the photo is the building of the old city arsenal; the building on the corner of Ruska Street, where the Ukrainian gymnastic school was located "Sokil" society; behind the house stands the Kornyakt Tower and the Assumption Church; on the right is the fence of the square on the Governor's Embankment.
